Finding your way here

How to get to the Southbank Centre, including all of our venues; the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery.

Travelling by tube

Waterloo (Northern, Bakerloo, Jubilee and Waterloo & City lines) is 200 metres away.

Embankment (District and Circle lines) is 600 metres away, over Hungerford Bridge.

Travelling by bus

Routes 1, 26, 59, 68, 76, 139, 168, 172, 176, 188, 243, 341, 521, N1, N68, N171, N343 and X68 stop on Waterloo Bridge (100 metres away).

Routes 76, 77, 211, 381, 507 and N381 stop on York Road (500 metres away).

Travelling by train

The nearest train stations to the Southbank Centre are Waterloo, Waterloo East and Blackfriars on the south side of the River Thames, and Charing Cross on the north side.

Travelling by boat
River Bus services

Take the River Bus RB1 route and alight at London Eye Pier, which depart every 20 minutes on weekdays. River Buses are operated by Thames Clippers and accept Oyster cards.

Join the Circular Cruise service between Westminster and St Katharine’s, and alight at Festival Pier.

Travelling by bike

Our bicycle parking is located in Southbank Centre Square, off Belvedere Road.

The nearest Cycle Hire stands can be found on Concert Hall Approach, over the road from Southbank Centre Square.

Travelling by car or taxi

There is a drop-off on the slip road outside Southbank Centre Square. We encourage travel by public transport as parking in the local area is very restricted.

Belvedere Road is closed to westbound traffic. To access our site by road, please approach via Chicheley Street and turn eastwards onto Belvedere Road.

Parking

We have four free Blue Badge parking spaces available for visitors, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The spaces are located on the Queen Elizabeth Hall slip road (between the Royal Festival Hall and Hayward Gallery). Make sure you display your Blue Badge as you enter; vehicles that do not display a Blue Badge are refused entry.

Blue badge holders visiting us can also park for free in the National Theatre car park and APCOA Cornwall Road car park. Please be aware that when the National Theatre building is closed (Sundays and days without a performance) there is no step-free access from their car-park. You can contact the National Theatre directly to check opening times by emailing boxoffice@nationaltheatre.org.uk, or by phoning 020 7452 3961.

Alternative car-parking

You can pre-book parking within walking distance of the Southbank Centre through YourParkingSpace.co.uk, which connects drivers with parking space owners. Southbank Centre visitors can get a 20% discount on their website with the code ‘SBCENTRE20’.

The Congestion Charge

The Southbank Centre is inside the ULEZ and Congestion Charge zone. You must pay a daily charge if you drive within the Congestion Charge zone from 7am – 6pm on weekdays and from 12 noon – 6pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. There is no charge between Christmas Day and the New Year’s Day bank holiday (inclusive).

Coaches

Free coach bays, for drop off and collection only, are available by the London Eye (these must be pre-booked), on the Upper Ground Slip Road off Waterloo Road behind the National Theatre and on the slip road opposite the National Theatre leading up to Waterloo Bridge.
