Reframe: Inspire - a KS3 writing project

Create a zine with your class as part of our digital creative project

A creative multimedia project for KS3 pupils in schools Birmingham, London and Manchester.

Aimed at inspiring young people’s interests in different creative fields, the REFRAME: Inspire Schools project gets pupils working collaboratively with artist-educators on a digital ‘zine’, weaving poetry, visual art, and digital skills to create their own online publication, supported by Apple technology, and taking their creative brief from the Southbank Centre’s artistic programme.

This project is a unique opportunity for pupils to explore their creativity across different mediums, work with world-class artists, and share their work with performance and exhibition opportunities.

As part of the project, participating teachers receive free CPD sessions on taking creative and digital skills into the classroom.

The next REFRAME: Inspire Schools project takes place in autumn terms one and two.

REFRAME: Inspire Schools Celebration Day

On Monday 10 July 2023, every school that took part in the project was invited to the Southbank Centre to celebrate the launch of their printed zines and the unveiling of the online library and to take part in a day full of activities.

This included a panel discussion from climate activists including Tori Tsui and Love Ssega, a visit to the Hayward Gallery and a tour of the rooftop garden, as well as performances from artists and a zine fair featuring their finished zines.

REFRAME: Inspire Schools Anthem

‘Together We Can Change the World’ is the anthem of the first year of the Reframe: Inspire Schools project.

The lyrics of this song are drawn from and inspired by the poetry these young people wrote in their workshops.

‘Together We Can Change the World’ is written and performed by Nicole Justice, Arji Manuelpillai, Marie Ortinau, Love Ssega and Reece Williams. Production and track by Nicole Justice Media. Stop-motion animation music video by 3angles.art and Artizine UK. Commissioned by the Southbank Centre.

Reframe: Inspire Schools is supported by Apple and produced by the Southbank Centre with Factory International and the Midlands Art Centre.
