Hayward Gallery Commissioning Committee

Build your personal connection to us and have your say in our outdoor art commissions

The Southbank Centre is more than just an arts venue – it’s where creative people come together to share ideas and make exciting new work.

Equally important is our purpose to be a welcoming space where a truly diverse audience can connect with transformative cultural experiences.

One way we do this is via the amazing outdoor art installations you can find around the Southbank Centre – including stop-you-in-your-tracks works commissioned by the Hayward Gallery.

From The Hop, Jyll Bradley’s tribute to Lambeth’s hop pickers, to the striking bamboo installation वेणु [Venu] by Asim Waqif, these commissions are inspired by our programme and architecture – and provide unexpected moments of delight for the diverse array of people who come across them when they visit our site.

You can have your say in our future commissions by becoming part of the Hayward Gallery Commissioning Committee – a group of supporters who love contemporary art and believe it enriches our public spaces.

‘I think our outdoor commissions are one of the most important strands in the Hayward Gallery’s programme, and one which fulfils our mission in the most generous way possible’

– Ralph Rugoff, Hayward Gallery Director

Join the Commissioning Committee

For an annual contribution of £12,000, you can join our Hayward Gallery Commissioning Committee and:

  • have the chance to suggest artists for consideration by the committee
  • review the shortlisted proposals for each installation
  • receive invites to regular committee meetings where, along with Hayward Gallery Director Ralph Rugoff and the curatorial team, you will discuss and make decisions on upcoming commissions
  • be part of the conversation about opening up the arts to new, under-represented audiences.

You will also be invited to participate more closely in the life of the Hayward Gallery, including at special events and curator talks.

The committee helps the Hayward Gallery to achieve its mission of championing greatness, seeking out talented artists and providing them with a space to create their best work – and by doing so, ensuring we are at the forefront of the arts, provoking and inspiring culture, not just following it.
